Our route leader will send you a text message when your student arrives safely to school.
The Walking School Bus (WSB) will be walking in various weather conditions (i.e. rain, snow). If the WSB is cancelled due to unsafe walking conditions, we will notify you.
Every route has two trained adult route leaders. Route leaders consist of United Way of Racine County staff, Racine Unified School District staff and volunteers.
Yes. Every volunteer must complete a United Way of Racine County background check.
Yes. All route leaders are trained and follow various safety measures. Route leaders and students wear reflective vests at all times. Route leaders utilize a reflective stop sign and whistle when crossing streets.
The Walking School Bus is currently operating at Julian Thomas Elementary and Knapp Elementary.
Students must be referred to the program. Once registration is complete, the program is free.
