Volunteer Advisory Team FAQ

Volunteer Advisory Teams (VAT) support United Way's community investment process. These volunteer-led teams review grant applications and make funding recommendations for programs that support United Way's focus areas of health, education, financial stability and essential services. 

  • Be knowledgeable about the community conditions that affect the work of the funded programs.
  • Read submitted proposals.
  • Electronically complete assignments and evaluations via eCImpact.
  • Share your objective observations for each program based on the submitted proposal, financials, supporting documents and your rubric-driven evaluation.
  • Score, evaluate, rank and make funding rationale recommendations to the community investment committee. 
  • Review funded program through monthly, mid-year and year-end reports.

Volunteer Advisory Team volunteers can serve on the health committee, education committee, financial stability committee, and essential services team.These teams review and evaluate program proposals to assess alignment with United Way funding. We also have the community investment financial team (CIFT). CIFT oversees the fiscal accountability of organizations awarded United Way funding. The health, education, financial stability, essential services and CIFT teams report to the Community Investment Committee (CIC), which brings funding recommendations to United Way's Board of Directors.

Up to 25 hours between January and April 2025. In-person participation is encouraged; volunteers may also attend virtually. 

  • Independently review and score proposals between team meetings.

Wednesday 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. 
2025: February 5, 12, and 19, March 5 and 19, April 2, 16 and 30.

 

The volunteers who serve on the volunteer advisory teams meet virtually using Microsoft Teams or may attend in person.

Meetings are typically scheduled from 4-5:30 p.m. Depending on agenda items and the number of proposals to evaluate, times may be shorter or slightly longer depending on team discussion.

Volunteers can select the team that they have the most knowledge or interest in that fit with their schedule.

Yes. The 2025 funding year is starting soon. Submit your application to become a VAT member prior to January 27, 2025.
