Our team of certified and vetted volunteers is ready to assist you with your tax filing needs. In-person services can assist with returns back to 2020. The United Way of Racine County VITA program serves Wisconsin taxpayers with a household income of $69,000 or less. We are unable to prepare or file returns for taxpayers who file as Married Filing Separate, have rental income (landlords), or businesses with inventory or employees. If your return is out of scope for in-person services, please visit our DIY options for free software to file your own return using our free TaxSlayer software or IRS Direct File.
Out of Scope returns:
We cannot file returns with the following items due to it being out of scope for the VITA program:
- Married Filing Separate returns (filing separately from your spouse)
- Returns with landlord/rental income
- Returns with buying or selling of cyber currency
- Business returns (with employees, use of home as an office, inventory/stock). We can prepare simple self-employment returns.
- State returns other than Wisconsin and non-resident Illinois returns
Items that are out of scope are not limited to the list above. These are just the most common items we see. We will interview you and discuss your tax situation to determine if you are within the scope of our program.
UWRC VITA will be returning for 2026! The Appointment scheduler is anticipated to open January 7, 2026.
