• Saves each client an average of $200 in tax preparation fees.
• Reduces barriers to filing and claiming valuable refundable tax credits that provide financial support to individuals and families.

What to expect

• Flexible schedules are available, including weekdays, evenings and weekends. A commitment of one shift per week is required during tax season, January through April. Shifts range from two to four hours.

• No experience is required. All training is provided. Certification classes are offered both in-person and virtually and in English and Spanish. Classes start in December to give you plenty of time to certify at your own pace.
  • Tax certification materials and resources are only provided in English. Reading comprehension in English is required to be a tax-certified volunteer. 

• Requirements:
  • Virtual orientation is required for all volunteers. After applying, you will receive an email with the days, times and link to attend. Orientations are held weekly starting the week of October 16.
  • All volunteers are required to submit and pass a background check before volunteering at a site.

TAX CERTIFIED VOLUNTEER

- We provide all training and resources to ensure your success.

- Volunteers who certify to prepare tax returns are qualified to fill a variety of volunteer roles such as tax preparer and quality reviewer. Virtual opportunities available.

NON-CERTIFIED VOLUNTEER

- Not involved in the preparation or filing of tax returns. All training provided.

- Welcomes clients to the site, supports them through the intake process and assists the site coordinator with administrative tasks.
